Malnad Area Development Board has been striving hard to develop the Malnad area by providing adequate connectivity to the rural people. In this respect the board taken up the roads and bridges sector on top priority and included construction and development of roads and bridges in its annual action plans. The number of works taken up under this sector from inception is detailed below:

Apart from the above Board’s regular action plan works , 285 NABARD Aided projects have been implemented by the Board and developed 1390.38 Kms of Road and 592.22 Mtrs of bridges. The tranchewise projects implemented by the Board is as follows.

Education Sector

Board has concentrated on education sector which is very much needed for Socio-Economic development of rural population. In this sector also the board has taken up works and developed infrastructure facilities. The number of works taken up under this sector from inception is detailed below:

Health Sector

Malnad area is a hilly terrain and heavy rainfall area prone to different types of diseases and hence requires adequate hospital facilities for scattered rural population. The board, with its limited budget allocation, has been implemented works and improved the infrastructure facilities of hospital in Malnad area. Minor Irrigation Sector

It is needless to emphasize that the socio-economic development of rural population is possible only if adequate irrigation facility is provided to rural population who are largely depend on agriculture for livelihood. Drinking Water Supply

Drinking water supply is prime concern of the Board. It has given priority to improve the water supply facilities of villages by implementing works required for providing mini water supply to rural population. Animal Husbandry

Development of livestock has an in built superiority over crop farming. The board has identified the villages where there is lack of infrastructure facilities for hospitalization of livestock and constructed veterinary buildings and taken up different development works under this sector. Anganavadi Buildings

It is needless to emphasize that the child growth in rural areas must be in a healthy atmosphere which needs conducive environment. In order to strengthen the Anganavadi buildings in rural areas of Malnad region,the Board has implemented infrastructure development works . Community Services

It has promoted secularism by constructing buildings like community halls, library buildings, Ranga mandiras, etc. as per the proposals of MLA members and the President of the Board. The number of works taken up under this sector from inception is detailed below:

Special Component Plan (SCP)

Under this plan, the Govt. released funds to the Board during 2007-08 & 2009-10.In addition to regular infrastructure development works, action plan under following scheme has been prepared by the Board in the relevant year.

Tribal Sub Plan (TSP)

In 2009-10 Govt. has allocated and released Rs.119.56 lakhs under this plan. The Board has taken up 67 development works under this plan during 2009-10. During 2010-11 the Govt. has allocated Rs.150.00 lakhs under this plan under which apart from regular works under discretionary quotas the following suspension bridges have been taken up under this scheme.

  • Construction of Suspension bridge across Cauvery river near Kanive Ramalingeshweara temple in Kushalanagar Taluk of Kodagu district.

  • Construction of Suspension bridge across Payashwini river near Panchikal school in Mande kallu village in Sulya Taluk of Dakshina Kannada district.

Ganga Kalyana Yojane

In the year 2007-08 , the board has identified 547 eligible scheduled caste beneficiaries to provide irrigation facilities at a unit cost of Rs. 1.00 Lakh per beneficiary. So far, 488 rural families were benefited by this scheme till to end of 2010-11.

Housing Scheme

In the year 2007-08,the board has planned to provide housing facility to 714 Scheduled Caste beneficiaries. So far, 649 houses have been completed till to end of 2010-11. Remaining houses are under progress which are likely to be completed in 2011-12.
